No one knows more about the struggle to maintain balance than a person with ADHD and Bi-polar. I have been dealing with these issues since I was 6 years old, and surely endured many tumultuous times as I repeatedly attempted to acquire control over my impulsive behavior, and natural imbalance in my moods. Staying focused and balanced in mind, body, and soul, became an obsession. For 29 of my 35 years I have been a test subject of trial medications in search for a "cure", and chased my treatment through medication, meditation, mutilation, institutionalization, and deep contemplation. Self defeating behavior became the norm, as impulsive decisions lead me further and further off course from my life aspirations to help people. I am not ashamed of my past, because I believe it is within those moments in darkness when we are defined by epiphanies revealed by our facing the fears that hold us back on our destined path. At one point along the way, I started to realize that there is nothing wrong with me, I am just as I should be. We all have different things that allow for the mind be raised to a level of awareness. This allows the mistakes of the past to be seen in such high definition, we become attuned to the sense of our purpose, and the road we must take to amplify that innate compass of destiny. These days I still struggle daily with the same issues, however I am conscious of the fact that my necessities in life all hinge on my ability to roll with the punches. Lessons are learned or not learned, but one thing you can count on is that they ALL repeat themselves. If you pay close attention to what is going on with your body, and how you feel, you can learn to prevent otherwise inevitable mini-emotional breakdowns. Care for your body and listen to it...Remember, no matter how bad it is, it can always get worse if you don't do anything about it. Find someone that you can talk to about how you feel. There are many local programs that allow those without insurance to gain access to counseling, or maybe just a good friend that has similar issues. By talking things over with someone who understands we allow ourselves the relief of feeling like we are inadequate, and bring in a sense of relief that we are not alone. In my experience the one thing that is probably most important thing in maintaining my sanity is my morning meditation ritual. I sit on my porch and watch the trees blow in the wind, and then close my eyes to listen to the water fountain and the beautiful sounds of life. I remind myself that we are all connected through everything in nature. In those moments I am at peace, and all things are as they should be. That short period of acknowledging the connection of life, brings me the strength to keep on keeping on, so that I might become beacon to those lost in the darkness who don't know there is a way out. Please share your own personal experience with anything I have touched on that you can identify with.
